so last night im watching pollock while painting what is hopefully my last cupcake in a while, and it happens. he says what ive been thinking since i began painting 3 yrs ago: why does it have to have a meaning? why does it have to fit into a genre or be from a dream, be realistic, be pollitical, be south african? why cant it be art for the sake of art? i mean if you ask me if theres someone who got it right, its pollock, theres absolutely no way to fault his work, you cant even find something wrong with his brush strokes or subject matter, cause there was none, he was beyond that.
i dont sell paintings. this is not for want of trying, i would absolutely love to sell my work, but it seems to not be sellable, my work clings to me, they like being exhibited, but then to return home. because i think money taints it, when i paint to sell, the paintings lack heart, when i paint for me, when i do something that i know would never sell, and therefore i dont try to make it sellable ( the industry/overcoming parkinsons ) i manage to make good paintings. i hope to continue to make paintings with heart, without silly issues and angst - angst is so last year. thank you for support and comments, i hope to surprise you and me both with better work and possibly, hopefully, maybe some success later on! but untill then, happy painting!
